Coordination with Other Seismic Monitoring Networks

Utah is part of the eight-state ANSS-IMW region (AZ, CO, ID, MT, NM, NV, UT, WY) and we actively coordinate and exchange data with neighboring seismic networks operated by:

For an overview of our data exchange with other networks, click here.

The USGS National Earthquake Information Center (NEIC) is staffed on a 24/7 basis. NEIC staff and their USGS Web site provide fundamental backup for our—and all other—regional seismic networks that form part of ANSS.

Note: NEIC reports authoritative solutions for the locations and magnitudes of earthquakes occurring outside the authoritative regions of ANSS regional networks—for example, in parts of eastern Idaho and western Wyoming lying between our Utah and Yellowstone catalog regions shown on the right.

The USGS National Strong-Motion Program (NSMP) operates more than 30 strong-motion seismographs in Utah. Approximately one-third of these stations are fully integrated into our real-time earthquake information system, and data from the others are provided to us in near-real-time by NSMP.
